    Chief Of Engineering


    PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF ROLE

    The purpose of the Chief of Engineering role is responsibility for marine engineering and maintenance. The scope of the role also includes overseeing ship operation consumables, the management of all ship marine teams, and technical assistance to new projects.

    RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS
    * Business Planning
    • Provide Engineering and Maintenance related advice to senior management.
    • Ensure technical operations are in accordance with respective regulatory requirements.
    • Assist the TD with planning technical / maintenance requirements according to the Company’s business needs.
    • Develop and update all technical and maintenance SOPs and manual
    * Technical, Engineering and Maintenance
    • Survey the ships to identify M&E requirements.
    • Develop a marine and M&E maintenance plan
    • Order marine and M&E spare parts in coordination with the TD and Purchasing.
    • Coordinate marine and M&E maintenance contractors and scope of work
    • Identify shipyards and negotiate maintenance period costs
    • Provide information and options for repairs /replacement/ modifications (>5,000USD per task) two month before maintenance period.
    • Check technical modifications or misusing DO
    • Check engine room logbook is correctly completed to required standards
    • Check marine logbook is correctly completed to required standards
    • Review Ship DO and LO consumption.
    • Order DO and LO through Purchasing.
    • Maintain stock of spare parts on ships and maintain inventory record.
    • Liaise with relevant authorities for licenses
    * People Management
    • Monthly meetings with direct reports
    • Motivate and inspire the direct reports to achieve department and individual goals
    • Monitor performance of direct reports and address any issues
    • Conduct bi-annual performance reviews for direct reports
    • Develop direct reports
    • Monitor the work allocation in the department.

    * Project Management
    • Calculate costs for marine and M&E installation
    • Compare offers from service providers
    • Consult with Purchasing on purchases
    • Maintain project timelines
    • Control staff and contractors safety, discipline and hygiene during project.
    • Assist the TD in coordinating M&E designers and Naval architects
    • Check weight and electric consumption calculations
    • Recommend suppliers and brands with regard to price and quality
    • Check quantities for M&E and marine parts
    * Reporting
    • Weekly and monthly reporting to the TD and COO on Maintenance, Status and Meetings
    • Project and/or new ship build reports on an as required basis.
    • Reporting of Ship DO and LO consumption on a weekly basis
    * Continuous Improvement
    • Identify areas for continual improvement across Technical and Maintenance Dept.
    • Attend regular training courses and seminars to keep up to date with technical and maintenance issues
    • Keep others informed by sharing information


    QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE
    • Preferable: tertiary studies in civil engineering, offshore structure, marine engineering, naval engineering
    • Certification in Management
    • Broad technical knowledge of engineering and maintenance essential

    EXPERIENCE
    • Minimum 3 years management experience
    • Minimum 5 years technical experience working with ships
    • Experience in project management
    • Preferable experience: Shipyard and / or in maritime sector and / or ship repair company

    • Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time during project phase
    • Domestic travel
    • Ability to work under time pressure
    • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
