Rosneft enters fray for Chevron Block B - O Mon interest

Chevron has brought Russia’s Rosneft to the negotiating table as it looks for a buyer for its operated interest in the Block B gas project. Rosneft has in recent months been positioning itself for growth in the country. Talisman Energy and Gazprom were identified early on as leading candidates for the Chevron interest. Block B is a significant gas resource, as it is expected to lead to the building of multiple gas-fired electricity plants in the O Mon area in central Mekong Delta. Chevron had tried for years to finalise commercial terms with PetroVietnam to support the development of Block B.
