    Technical Changes in PV Elite and CodeCalc 2014, SP2.


    The following list details changes to PV Elite and CodeCalc (Version 16.00.02), which may affect the numeric results:


    Revised Calculations


    Revised the calculation of the ASME Section VIII, Division 2 combined stress intensity to reflect the method outlined in the 2013 edition of the Example Problem Manual (PTB-3). For more information, see the ASME publication PTB-3-2013, see Example E4.3.6, Combined Loadings and Allowable Stresses
    Updated the allowable stress calculation for elements specified as flanges for some non-carbon steel materials, according to the latest EN 13445 code standards. For flanges, the software now uses Rp1.0/t / 1.5 for the allowable stress calculation. This change affects the calculation of stainless steel materials that are used as flanges when the elongation (A) is greater than or equal to 35 percent.
    Revisions in PV Elite and CodeCalc 2014, SP2
    The following revisions were made to PV Elite and CodeCalc software for the Version 2014, Service Pack 2 release:
    Analysis Updates
    Fixed an issue in CodeCalc where the software merged partition gasket values (specified on the Gasket Data tab for the flange) for an ASME Tubesheet, even if the flange did not have a partition gasket specified. The software no longer merges partition gasket values for a tubesheet when you clear the Is There a Partition Gasket? check box on the Gasket Data tab for the flange. (TR-TX-9524).
    Resolved an issue in CodeCalc during shell and head analysis with jobs having an Analysis Type of API579, FFS (Fitness for Service). Previously, when you analyzed a file with a Flaw Type of General Metal Loss (Section 4) or Local Metal Loss (Section 5) (specified on the API 579 tab), and then changed the Flaw Type to Pitting (Section 6), CodeCalc closed out of the file and did not perform the re-analysis. (TR-TX-9840).
    Resolved an issue in CodeCalc with ASME Tubesheets where the software did not include the calculated Tubesheet Flanged Extension Thickness per UHX-9 in the Summary of Thickness Comparisons section of the analysis if the bolt load is transferred to the tubesheet. In this scenario, when you selected Is Boat Load Transferred to the Tubesheet? on the Tubesheet tab, the software calculated the values for the flanged extension thickness according to UHX-9 (using operating [hr_opr] and seating [hr_seat]). The software now displays the greater of these flanged extension thickness calculations in the Summary of Thickness Comparisons section of the analysis. (TR-TX-10278).
    Resolved an issue in PV Elite when you transferred a bolt load to a tubesheet with a Tubesheet Type of (d) U-tube tubesheets, gasketed on both sides, the software did not display the Tubesheet Flanged Extension Thickness per UHX-9 results on the Summary of Thickness Comparisons section of the ASME TS Calc output report. PV Elite now displays the value in the Summary of Thickness Comparisons section of the report so that all of the relevant thicknesses appear in one final location. (TR-TX-10334)

    Fixed an issue where the CodeCalc software ceased to run when you changed an existing shell Type of Reinforcing Ring to Bar, changed the width and thickness of the ring, and then defined a new shell head component and set the Type of Reinforcing Ring to None. The software now successfully saves the shell head information. (TR-TX-10396)
    Updated the software to automatically choose the minimum or maximum value of the hub ratio (Xh), when the hub ratio value is less than or more than the dependent values for flanges, as specified in ASME Section VIII, Division 2. According to the 2013 edition, Table 4.16.5 specifies two equations for V. The choice of which equation to use depends on the Xh value (defined in Table 4.16.4). According to the standard, the value for Xh cannot be less than 0.1 or more than 2.0. If Xh is less than 0.1, the Flange Calculation output report includes a warning that the hub ratio (Xh) was less than 0.1 and the software set the value of Xh to 0.1. (CR-TX-10099)
    Fixed an issue on the Vessel Jacket, Vapor/Distribution Belt Input dialog box when you entered a Half Apex Angle for a jacketed vessel of up to 60 degrees. In this situation, when you specified a Select Closure Type of Type (b-2), and you entered a Half Apex Angle of 30 degrees, the PV Elite software prompted you to enter a Half Apex Angle value between 0 and 30 degrees. The software no longer prompts you that you must enter a value between 0 and 30 degrees. (CR-TX-10340)
    Material Updates
    Resolved an issue where CodeCalc would stop running if you selected a material that was not in the database, and then changed the design temperature. In this version, CodeCalc prompts you to change the Allowable Stress values for the material, and the software continues to run. (TR-TX-9852)
    Resolved a usability issue in the CodeCalc software with entering a material. When you typed a material by keystroke and then hit ENTER, the software did not move the cursor to the next box. CodeCalc now moves the cursor to the next logical input automatically, so you can enter values quickly and then hit ENTER to move to the next box. (CR-TX-9813)
    Calculations
    Fixed an issue in CodeCalc with nozzles that have reinforcing pads. When you cleared the Is there a reinforcing pad? check box on the Geometry tab for the nozzle component, the software removed all reinforcing pad data from the job. The software now sets the reinforcing pad data values to defaults appropriate for the nozzle data, as similar to how PV Elite functions. (CR-TX-9212)
    Fixed an issue in nozzle calculations where changing the Shell Section Material to normalized or non-normalized (by selecting or clearing the Is the Material Normalized checkbox on the Shell/Head tab for the nozzle) caused CodeCalc to stop running. The software allows you to select or clear this checkbox for the shell material without issue now. (TR-TX-9856)
    Fixed issues with the formula substitutions in rectangular vessel calculations for Figure A2 and A6 types in the Figure Number for Type of Vessel box in CodeCalc. (TR-TX-10369)
    Error Reports
    Resolved an issue where the software displayed incorrect error message when you selected the Apply Seismic Loads to Vessel option to a horizontal vessel in CodeCalc. The error message stated that the Seismic Zone Identifier specified was not in the acceptable range, when the zone actually was in the applicable range. (TX:9814)
    Output Reports
    Resolved an issue with the Shear Stress check (Tau_ limit) formula in the ASME TS Calc output report for ASME tubesheets using metric units. Previously, when you analyzed a fixed tubesheet model in PV Elite or CodeCalc, the software displayed the Shear Stress check formula results in imperial units on the output report, even when the job was specified as metric. The software now displays the formula results for metric jobs in metric units. (TR-TX-9940)
    Resolved an issue with a formula equation and substitution used in the UHX-13.5.8 ASME TS Calc output report for ASME tubesheets. UHX-13.5.8 Step 8 on the report referenced a formula from ASME Section VIII, Div.1, 2010 Edition 2011A. The report now correctly references the formula from ASME Section VIII, Div. 1, 2013 Edition.     Resolved an issue in CodeCalc involving the Bending Stress at the Shell section calculation in the output report for a rectangular vessel. The Bending Stress at the Shell section equation now cubes the t3/t1 expression in the result as per code standards. (TR-TX-10153)
    Updated the ASME U-1 and U-2 forms for vessel inspections to the latest revision released by the National Board. You can enter U-1 form information by selecting Tools > ASME Form Information. Then, you can analyze the job, review the report in the Output Professor, and submit the form to the National Board or appropriate authorities. (CR-TX-9916)
    Fixed an issue with output report values in heat exchanger jobs. When the Hydrotest Type was specified as UG-100 (pneumatic), the software incorrectly included the hydro weight value in calculations and displayed it on the Element and Detail Weights report. In addition, the software displayed the Miscellaneous Weight on this report as zero percent, when the input value was 10 percent. The software now calculates and displays the correct values on the output report. (TR-TX-9163)
    Fixed an issue where CodeCalc displayed NaN (Not a Number) and Infinity instead of populating the report with the correct input values. The software now displays the correct values on the WRC-297 Report. (TR-TX-10053)
    Fixed an issue on the Heat Exchanger Tubesheet Input dialog box where the software disabled the Interface Pressures inputs on the Tube Data tab when you specified the Tubesheet Analysis Method as TEMA. PV Elite now lets you enter interface pressure information when you specify TEMA as the analysis method. (TR-TX-10402)
    Resolved an issue with API-579 flaw/damage analysis where the software displayed a not-a-number (NaN) value on the Quick Calculation Results report for the Coefficient of Variation (COV) when there was only one thickness provided for the job. While the analysis is actually not viable when there are an insufficient number of data points given, the error message needed revision. When you press QuickCalc on the API-579 Flaw/Damage Input/Analysis dialog box, the software displays a more specific error message, “PV Elite could not perform the check for the Coefficient of Variation (COV) because you specified only one data point.” (TR-TX-10421)
    Resolved an issue in output reporting where the software incorrectly calculate cylindrical component values, including the hoop stress intensity at the design pressure and any stresses induced on an element due to hydrotest pressure. PV Elite now calculates the hoop stress reported in the Internal Pressure Calculations output report by using the reverse of the formula used for determining the Required Thickness Due to Internal Pressure (tr). (CR-TX-10356)
    Fixed an issue with the Saddle Force Q result caused by the center of gravity of nozzles on the Horizontal Vessel Analysis report. For nozzles attached to a Welded Flat head or Blind Attached flange elements on a symmetrical model, the Saddle Force Q was not the same value between the left and right saddle calculations. The output report now shows the Saddle Q Force as the same for the left and right saddles on a symmetrical model. (TR-TX-10543)
    Revised a calculation on the API-579 Calculations output report involving the conical and torispherical diameters. The software calculated the Inside Diameter of Shell (D) at a different value than the code standard. The calculation details appear in Step 6 in the Conical Shell section. The software now calculates this value in the same way as the code standard. (TR-TX-10410)
    Units of Measure
    Fixed an issue with imported nozzle data in the WRC-107/537 and WRC-297 modules in CodeCalc. When you imported metric standard nominal and hub nozzle data from PV Elite (by browsing from the Import Nozzle Data from PV Elite box), the software displayed the Diameter column in the PV Elite Browser dialog box in inches, even when the nozzle file units were metric. The software now displays the diameter in the units of the imported nozzle file. (TR-TX-10091)WRC 107/537 and WRC 297.
    Restored the ability to merge a shell or head component in the WRC 107/537 and the WRC 297 modules. This functionality was previously available in CodeCalc 2012. Select the ellipsis to the right of the Shell/Head Name box on the Vessel tab of the WRC 107/593 or WRC 297 module, and then select the shell or head in the Shell/Head selection dialog box to merge the properties.
