    Keppel confirms $1.1bn jack-up order

Keppel Fels has been awarded a $1.1 billion contract from Transocean to build five high-spec jack-ups with an option for five more, confirming prior Upstream reports.

Upstream reported last week that the Singapore-based outfit had pulled to the front of the pack of contenders for the project.

Transocean had been seeking the units - with the set of 10 worth about $2 billion - in a push aimed at re-establishing a strong position in the shallow-water market after shedding older jack-ups in a corporate slimdown.

The quintet of KFELS Super B Class units are scheduled for delivery between the first quarter of 2016 through the third quarter of 2017.
"We build winning partnerships with our customers, and our collaboration with Transocean over the years has enabled us to customise innovative products well suited to meet the market's needs," Wong Kok Seng, managing director at Keppel Fels, said in a statement.

The units will be designed to work in up to 400 feet of water and drill to 35,000 feet.

The rig owner recently took delivery of three Super B Class jack-up rigs, two of which were operating at “100% revenue efficiency” during the first months of operations in the Gulf of Thailand, Transocean chief executive Steven Newman said in August.
