Job title: Design Manager Company Profile: Strategic Marine is a global shipbuilder headquartered in Western Australia, with yards in Singapore, Mexico, and Vietnam. We specialize in the design and construction of high speed aluminum patrol boats, crew boats, ferries, large steel vessels & complex marine structures. Position purpose: Provide technical and design direction at Strategic Marine Vietnam Key Responsibilities: Task Management: Ensure OHS&E policies & guidelines are carried out Follow approved company processes as defined in Strategic Marine’s Business Management System Continually seek to identify & minimize areas of risk and/or waste Provide technical and design direction to the Design Team Manage technical and design resources within budget and project schedules Keep Project Manager/s well informed of status of design work and serve as liaison between design staff and project manager Create and execute plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements Ensure design team adhere to project specifications, and to document control rules Responsible for managing technical & design risk throughout project Communicate and enforce coding standards Apply significant knowledge of industry trends and developments to deliver best in class projects Identify system and design deficiencies and implement effective solutions Drive the research and development leading to new products People Management: Develop and maintain a positive team environment Review work of Design Team Conduct regular & timely performance reviews for all direct employees Conduct regular meetings and phone hook-ups with design team Keep design team well informed of changes within organization and general company news Create a learning environment for more junior team members Interpersonal Management Liaise with clients and client representatives Direct and liaise with external designers Direct interaction with Classification Societies Manage any subcontractors Communicate regularly with Project Manager/s Information Management Regular reporting (both verbal & written) to Senior Management and where necessary deliver project presentations to client Understand contractual & technical requirements of project Manage and sign off on Project Documentation Cross-functional thinking, generate workable solution Personal Management Look for opportunities to increase skills/experience in Leadership & Project Management Quality consciousness Act with integrity Able to manage stress in self & others.
